Anyone else still feel like they’re catching up from the holidays?

This time of year is always a weird time. I have all these goals, ideas and things I want to paint, and do, but no time to do it. I’m still filling lots orders, catching up on “business-y” things I neglected during the holidays, and doing bookkeeping/tax stuff.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I feel overwhelmed with all that needs to get done. And I think that I need to do so much more than what I’m doing to grow my business and achieve what I want to achieve. But there’s only one of me, so I’m learning to just try to take it one day at a time and live in the present.
And taking some deep breaths 😆.

Grateful for some time on the road with my best friend @halestorm_2013 !

We had a trip to Zion/Bryce postponed in the spring, so we didn’t want to cancel our trip even with the government shutdown this January. Haley took some time off work and I really need documentation for my next set of National paintings this year. So we’re staying outside the park and packing out our trash and treading lightly as we know the parks are super understaffed with the shutdown.

This year, when I post a National Park painting each month, I will share which Indigenous Tribes resided in that area historically, to honor their story and history.
Just wanting to shine light on the reality that these places were rightfully home to so many Indigenous Tribes in North America. They were unjustly moved off their land over-time by explorers, settlers, and eventually Americans. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Although there are a lot of great things about the creation of the National Park system in modern history, I want to acknowledge that they come from a complicated and unjust part of North America’s History.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From MRNP Website “In the area around what is today Mount Rainier National Park, the Nisqually, Puyallup, Squaxin Island, Muckleshoot, Yakama, and Cowlitz tribes all used the natural resources surrounding the mountain they called “Takhoma.” Archaeological evidence (AND traditional oral history of these tribes) trace native use of the area back 9,000 years. For millennia, the ancestors of modern tribes came to the mountain seasonally to hunt and gather resources. Today, those tribes continue to maintain a deep connection to the mountain.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
